Free Beef Quality Assurance training set Sept. 16 at Dillon

September 04, 2009 -- MSU News Service
BOZEMAN -- Area ranchers and cattle feeders are invited to a free Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) Twilight Training session from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept 16, near Dillon at the Big West Management Cattle Feeding Facility.

The Twilight Training will include a stockmanship clinic, a BQA chute-side cattle treatment seminar, animal care and animal health discussions, a cattle industry update and a beef supper. The father and son team of Ed and David Fryer, managers of the Castle Mountain Ranch at White Sulphur Springs, will present a horseback stockmanship demonstration and lead a cattle handling discussion.

This event is sponsored by the Montana Stockgrowers Association through a grant from the Montana Beef Council. For more information, contact Bryan Mussard at (406) 925-1416. The Big West Management facility is located six miles east of Dillon on the Sweetwater Road.

BQA Twilight Training sessions are being scheduled for other locations around Montana. Host operations can be ranches, feedlots, livestock markets or a combination of hosts, including ranches and local livestock associations and county Extension programs.

To learn more about BQA programming, go to www.mtbqa.org or contact Montana BQA Director Clint Peck of Billings at (406) 896-9068.
