Association of Retired Faculty to hold Capstone Lecture Series

September 17, 2009
The first in a new series of capstone lectures by the Association of Retired Faculty at Montana State University will be given by Gordon Brittan, Regents Professor Emeritus of Philosophy, at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, in the Taylor Auditorium at the Museum of the Rockies. A reception will follow. Brittan will lecture on "Craven Images," or the relationship between the sciences and the humanities.

The Capstone Lecture Series was initiated to honor and recognize those faculty who have recently retired. They are invited to give a capstone lecture on a topic of their choice to be given before the entire university community.

Brittan received his B. A. from Amherst and his Ph. D. from Stanford. Following a time as professor at the University of California, he has been on the faculty at MSU since 1973. Though recently retired, he is still teaching two courses every fall in the Department of History and Philosophy. During the course of his career at MSU he taught more than 20,000 students and also served as director of the Burton K. Wheeler Center for Public Policy. In addition, he has published many papers, three books and given numerous talks. He currently is serving as director of new project development at Exergy Development Group, a company that deals with wind farms and wind turbine technology.

Brittan's lecture is co-sponsored by the Museum of the Rockies. For more information, visit http://www.montana.edu/retired/.
