MSU Music Technology presents The Democratic Composition Project concert Oct. 18

The Democratic Composition Project," a free multimedia event featuring new video art and electronic music is set at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, in Reynolds Recital Hall.
The concert is presented by the Montana State University Department of Music, with piano performance by MSU professor Laurel Yost. Reynolds Recital Hall is located inside Howard Hall, on the MSU campus.
This concert will feature the world premiere of "The Democratic Composition Project," a new multimedia work written collaboratively by the Sunday Night Multimedia Series audience and the Bozeman community. Public submissions will be woven into a multimedia video art collage, with sound organized by MSU professor Kristi McGarity and visuals organized by Brian Christiansen, a graduate of MSU's School of Film and Photography. In the lobby prior to the show, the audience will be invited to experience the composition process directly, with an interactive "music technology petting zoo" designed by the MSU Electric Monster Laptop Ensemble.
The new audience-originated work, along with a full program of video art and music by a worldwide selection of composers and artists, will be presented with live sound diffusion through a multichannel speaker system. Yost will premiere Jude Weirmeir's new video score "Opus 3," in which the pianist performs without sheet music, improvising in response to the images onscreen.
The concert is sponsored by MSU's Music Technology program, which now offers a Bachelor of Arts in Music Technology.
