People in Education: Pinet honored as outgoing editor of 'French Review'

October 19, 2009
Chris Pinet, MSU French professor, was honored at the annual meeting of the American Association of Teachers of French for his work as editor of the "French Review."
Chris Pinet, a professor of French in Montana State University's Department of Modern Languages and Literature, was honored at the annual meeting of the American Association of Teachers of French held in San Jose, Calif., for his work as editor of the "French Review."

Pinet served as managing editor of the "French Review" from 1996 to 1998 and as editor in chief from 1998-2010.

The "French Review," which was founded in 1927, is the official journal of the AATF and has the largest distribution of any scholarly journal of French and Francophone studies in the world and a staff of 40 assistant and review editors. The review publishes scholarly articles on literature, society and culture, linguistics, film, pedagogy, interviews with writers and directors, and yearly columns on the year's work in poetry, the novel, Avignon theater festival, the Cannes Film Festival, and the political, social, economic, and international francophone scene. The "French Review" appears six times yearly.

As editor in chief Pinet has chosen the topics, been the lead editor, and written introductions for special issues on Paris, Martinique and Guadeloupe, Francophone Belgium, Quebec and Francophone Canada, Francophone literature in sub-Saharan Africa, Vietnam, the Maghreb and the Caribbean, Francophone in the United States and two issues devoted to pedagogy. Pinet has written 66 editorials to date on subjects ranging from francophobia in the United States to riots in the Parisian banlieues.

The final issue that Pinet will edit, to be entitled Algérie/France, will be published in May. He will be succeeded in July by Edward Ousselin of Western Washington University.
