Nominations now accepted for the 2010 Institutes for Women in Higher Education Administration

October 21, 2009
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2010 Institutes for Women in Higher Education Administration through the HERS Institute. The HERS Institute is designed for women faculty and administrators who currently hold significant leadership responsibilities and are ready to make a greater institutional impact.

Montana State University President Geoff Gamble has sponsored at least one woman to attend the institute each year.

The curriculum prepares participants for institutional leadership roles with knowledge, skills and perspectives for achieving institutional priorities and maximizing institutional resources. In additions, HERS Institute participants work with HERS faculty and HERS alumnae to develop the professional skills and networks needed for advancing as leaders in higher education administration.

Visit www.hersnet.org for details. There are two upcoming opportunities for MSU participation:

HERS Bryn Mawr Summer Institute (Bryn Mawr, PA.)
2010: June 18-July 2 **NEW TWO WEEK FORMAT**

HERS Institute at the University of Denver (Denver, CO.)
2010: Aug. 1-7, Sept. 9-11 and Oct. 21-23

President Gamble is particularly interested in receiving nominations of talented women who are interested in seeking leadership positions in higher education or in advancing in administrative positions they currently hold. No administrative experience in necessary, but the nominee, if a faculty member, should be tenured. After returning from the Institute, participants are expected to find opportunities to share their growth experiences with the campus community.

Nomination process: Before nominating someone, please check to see that she will be available to attend either of the institutes described above. Then write a brief letter of nomination (1) describing the nominee's qualifications, (2) detailing your reasons for recommending her, and, (3) if possible, indicating how the nominee might apply the skills and competencies acquired through participation in the institute in the future. Please include a current c.v. for the nominee.

Nominations should be submitted to Marj Brown, Suite 7, Hamilton Hall, no later than Nov. 13. An ad hoc selection committee of HERS alumni will make its recommendations to President Gamble no later than Nov. 20. For MSU to qualify for an early decision discount, the university's intentions must be communicated to HERS by Dec. 1.

Contact: Marj Brown, 994-2042, or marjb@montana.edu.
