Tillack to facilitate BFF's showing of 'Departures' on Nov. 16

October 30, 2009
Peter Tillack, professor of Japanese in Montana State University's Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, will introduce the Bozeman Film Festival showing of the Japanese film, "Departures," scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at Emerson Center for the Arts.

"Departures" (Okuribito), by director Yojiro Takita, was winner of the 2009 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. It is the story of Daigo Kobayashi, a devoted and unemployed cellist who answers a classified ad entitled "Departures" thinking it is for a travel agency only to discover that the job is actually for a preparer of deceased bodies for burial and entry into the next life. The film follows his profound and sometimes comical journey with death and living.

Tillack will also facilitate a discussion following the film.
