Center for Ag Education Opens on MSU Campus

01/14/98 BOZEMAN -- The Montana Center for Agricultural Education has opened on the Montana State University-Bozeman campus. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held recently at the office which is housed in MSU's ag building, Linfield Hall.

The center is a cooperative effort with the Montana Office of Public Instruction and the MSU-Bozeman College of Agriculture. In the past, the office has been housed with OPI in Helena. The move to Bozeman was made in an effort to enhance relations with MSU and the agricultural industry, says David E. Hall, Montana's new agricultural education specialist and state FFA advisor.

The timing of the move was coordinated with the hiring of Hall, who holds a doctorate, was a member of the agricultural and Extension education faculty at Pennsylvania State University. He has 34 years experience with ag education and FFA.

Hall says he'll work to enhance the FFA program in Montana. He'll also oversee the certification of high school ag education programs and monitor state and federal funding for such programs.

He says there's a growing need for ag-ed teachers in Montana and he'll work to "strengthen ag-ed programs across the state."
