1. Just sending Dr. Stewart OR the GTAs in any class an e-mail, a voice message or leaving a message with someone else, DOES NOT constitute contact, notification, justification or acknowledgement of any student behavior (ie, absences, missing assignments, tests, etc.)

2. Students MUST have a written reply from the contact person for official changes in assigned work.

3. STUDENTS SHOULD NOT E-MAIL DR. STEWART TO INFORM HIM THAT THEY ARE GOING TO MISS CLASS!!!!

STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KNOWING AND FOLLOWING ALL UNIVERSITY DEADLINES, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FINAL DATE TO OBTAIN A FACULTY MEMBER'S SIGNATURE ON A CLASS WITHDRAWAL.

I have read and fully understand the academic requirements of ________ including

a. how I will specifically earn my grade;

b. that attendance is require & I am totally responsible for getting any missed notes from other students;

c. IN CLASS assignments CANNOT be made up (unless otherwise noted);

d. I am expected to have read all assigned material PRIOR to the class period assigned;

e. I understand ALL the assignments and accept the responsibility for the completion and handing in of all or I will accept the consequences specified in the class syllabus (minimum of a zero on that assignment.. FAILURE to take the final exam will result in an ‘F’ for the class).

f. EXTRA CREDIT policy: IF there is an option for EC, it is ONLY in addition to all other work. There are no opportunities for EXTRA CREDIT to substitute for work NOT completed.

g. I understand that ALL assigned work in this class, unless otherwise noted, is to be the independent work of the student whose name appears on it. The only assistance a student may receive is basic proofreading from another individual like that which occurs in the MSU Writing Center or other MSU tutoring services. The following are examples of activities that will be considered cheating and will result IN AT LEAST a zero on the assignment, with the potential for failing the class & referral to University Student Discipline Committee and notification of your parents:

  • Using someone else's work (including work purchased from commercial sources)
  • Using an assignment from another class
  • Copying from someone else's work
  • Representing your work as complete (as in a book report) without completing the assigned reading
  • Turning in another student's work IF ATTENDANCE is a part of the assignment

I also understand and agree to follow the BEHAVIORAL requirements of this class which are:

  • arrive at class on time and stay until the end
  • turn off ALL electrical devices (CELL PHONES, BEEPERS, CD PLAYERS, IPODS, ETC) and keep them off for the entire class
  • do not disrupt IN ANY manner the educational atmosphere of the class by
    • talking inappropriately with your classmates
    • sleeping during class
    • attending class under the influence of any behavior altering substance
