Goals

  • Rural Nursing Science - Facilitating nursing and interdisciplinary research related to management of chronic health conditions by rural dwellers with a focus on promoting healthy behaviors, avoiding complications, encouraging self-management, and supporting the family.

  • Capacity Building - Enhance and strengthen a critical mass of nurse researchers to conduct the rural health research necessary to inform clinical practice; develop a basis for human research; provide on-call writing assistance, Research Brown Bag Sessions, workshops, access to the Western Writing Coercion Group, and other research skill building opportunities.

  • Pilot Program Funding - Provide seed money to fund essential research projects to lay the foundation for programs of rural nursing research; teach and strengthen skills related to grant proposal preparation, grant management, conducting research, and dissemination of research results.

  • Infrastructure Development - Enhance the research infrastructure to provide resources for existing programs of nursing research, nurture focused research on chronic health conditions in rural dwellers efforts among faculty, and increase the intensity of nursing and interdisciplinary research.

  • Linkages - Create interdisciplinary and inter-institutional regional linkages to expand and enhance the scope of nursing science and to improve the health of rural dwellers.
