Diversity Dialogue Seminar is a program aimed at providing students with opportunities to engage in directed cross-cultural dialogues that encompass a range of topics in broadly defined diversity terms (e.g., gender, ethnicity, religion/spirituality, SES, nationality, sexual
identity, etc). Each dialogue seminar meets for one and a half hours one day.
Goals:
- To provide a safe environment for open and informative intercultural dialogue
- To increase cultural understanding through sharing of experience
- To provide a venue for students engage in discussions on cultural topics
- To assist in development of cross cultural communication skills
IT IS MORE THAN A CONVERSATION…
IT IS…
Focused. Participants explore the group members’ life and campus experiences in relation to
the identity associated with their group. The groups cover topics that generally impact embers on a daily basis in some way and allow them to meet fellow students they would probably never meet otherwise.
Facilitated. Each group is led by a facilitator who provides structure and direction for the conversation to ensure the experience is engaging and safe for everyone.
Fair and balanced. The groups are facilitated in a manner that promotes a safe
environment for individuals with varying perspectives.
*Groups will meet at CPS in 211 Swingle and lunch will be provided.
*Seminars will last 1 1/2 hours and you must be able to attend the entire seminar.
You may choose to attend one seminar or multiple seminars.
*When participating in a group, you need to be able to speak from your own experiences.
Return the application to Mariah Hill at Counseling & Psychological Services (CPS)
(211 Swingle, above Student Health Services) or to Phenocia Bauerle in the
Diversity Awareness Office (SUB 284) by
at least a week prior to the date of the seminar.
