Diversity Dialogue Seminars

Diversity Dialogue Seminar is a program aimed at providing students with opportunities to engage in directed cross-cultural dialogues that encompass a range of topics in broadly defined diversity terms (e.g., gender, ethnicity, religion/spirituality, SES, nationality, sexual
identity, etc).  Each dialogue seminar meets for one and a half hours one day.

Goals:

  • To provide a safe environment for open and informative intercultural dialogue
  • To increase cultural understanding through sharing of experience
  • To provide a venue for students engage in discussions on cultural topics
  • To assist in development of cross cultural communication skills

IT IS MORE THAN A CONVERSATION…IT IS…

Focused.  Participants explore the group members’ life and campus experiences in relation to
the identity associated with their group.  The groups cover topics that generally impact members on a daily basis in some way and allow them to meet fellow students they would probably never meet otherwise.

Facilitated.  Each group is led by a facilitator who provides structure and direction for the conversation to ensure the experience is engaging and safe for everyone.

Fair and balanced.  The groups are facilitated in a manner that promotes a safe
environment for individuals with varying perspectives.
