MSU celebrates Diwali, Hindu festival of lights, on Nov. 16, 2008
Summary: A public celebration of Diwali, the Indian festival of lights, will be held from 4-8 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008 in MSU's SOB Barn.
The event, sponsored by the MSU Indian Student Association in cooperation with the MSU Diversity Awareness Office and the Office of International Programs, will consist of presentations about India, a variety of entertainment including music and dance, and Indian food prepared by members of the ISA. Tickets will be sold for $5. Proceeds will help ISA to help fund more activities and community events.
A significant festival in Hinduism Sikhism and Jainism, Diwali is celebrated on the first day of the lunar Karita month, where the lights represent the victory of good over evil, and as the last harvest of the year is finished, and prayers for a good year ahead are made.
