~Sharing Research, Shaping Perpectives~
In an effort to provide opportunities for faculty and students to share emerging work in areas surrounding diversity (interactions of race, gender, ability, experience, privilege and inequality), the Diversity Awareness Office is hosting a series of Afternoon Forums beginning
in the fall semester 2008.
At each forum faculty and/or graduate students will give brief presentations, followed by open discussions. Forums will take place the third Thursday of each month of the semester at
4:30 pm in SUB room 235, unless otherwise noted. Light refreshments will be served.
Potential topics could include interracial violence among university students, what it means
to be an African American student at the university, issues surrounding the immigrant workforce, representations and articulations of gender, racial formations, education and
racial identity, artistic expressions and racial/cultural identity, social change/justice, the
effects of politics on race/gender, among many others. Discussion topics on cultural/social/international differences and experiences are also welcome.
There is an extremely wide range of issues that can be addressed. We extend the invitation to present to all departments around the MSU campus. If you are interested or have researched
any of these topics, or areas surrounding diversity in any form, please consider presenting at
a forum in the upcoming semester.
If you are interested in presenting or have suggestions for topics and presenters, please
contact us.
