Mark Fiege is the Wallace Stegner Chair in Western American Studies. His research and teaching interests include histories of the American West, Environmental Studies, and National Parks and Protected Areas. He has earned numerous awards and honors, including the Alumni Association’s Best Teacher Award at Colorado State University and the Charles A. Weyerhaeuser Award from the Forest History Society. He is also a co-founder and council member of the Public Lands History Center at Colorado State University. His books include The Republic of Nature: An Environmental History of the United States (2012) and Irrigated Eden: The Making of an Agricultural Landscape in the American West (1999). Dr. Fiege received his PhD from the University of Utah and his MA from Washington State University.
