Well Driller, Driller’s Helper

 

The position at Potts Drilling that has become open is for Drillers/Drillers Helper. The position will include but is not limited to the following duties and work conditions.

 

Work Conditions:                                                        

                       

Most of the time work is performed year around in out of doors environment.  Generally, employees will not be required to work if temperatures exceed 110* F. or below -10* F. although in emergencies it may be required to do so.

 

Water Well Drilling lends itself to working in all weather elements and conditions so you will need to wear a variety of clothing including but not limited to insulated coveralls, heavy work coats, gloves, insulated work boots, raincoats etc.   You can expect to be working and walking in mud, snow, ice etc. and welding pipe and performing all other work duties in these conditions.  The work also requires mechanical maintenance and repair so you will also be dealing with grease and oil. These conditions can be physically demanding and are also hard on clothing.  Potts Drilling supplies hard hats, and ear and eye protections. All other work-related clothing is the responsibility of the employee unless other arrangements in writing are established.

 

Environments associated with this position are not only outdoors but also include working both inside and outside of customers businesses and homes. This can include but is not limited to the following:

 

  • Climbing stairs
  • Climbing ladders
  • Entering crawl spaces and crawling through them
  • Working in excavated ditches for installation of water lines
  • Walking/standing on uneven ground which can be dry, muddy, snow covered or icy
  • Working in close quarters which requires a reasonable amount of physical dexterity

All these tasks must be performed safely and efficiently prior to employment. Regular performance test may be required for continued employment. If not performed safely and efficiently employee will be on probation for 3 months at which time the employee will be terminated unless the required tasks can be performed safely and efficiently.

 

Job Duties:

  • Drive vehicles that require minimum Class B type 1 License w/ air brake and tanker endorsements. (Employer encourages employee to get Class A Type 1 with air brake, combinations and tanker endorsements. Employee will be required to cover all cost associated with this including DOT physical upon employment.  Employer will cover DOT physicals and license cost after this.)
  • Operate cranes with both hydraulic and wireless controls w/ proficiency
  • Use stick, wire feed welders
  • Use stick, wire feed welders
  • Operate oxygen acetylene torch
  • Be physically able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Be able to climb mast of rig that is 50 feet high
  • Be able to climb stairs numerous times per day and occasionally ladders
  • Operate safely electrical hand tools
  • General maintenance and repair of equipment
  • Maintain equipment according to regular maintenance schedules and document all maintenance and repairs performed on equipment
  • Keep equipment, vehicles, job site, shop, office, bathroom and yard clean and organized.
  • Fill out well log and well log reports
  • Writing down each day materials needed for next day
