EDCI 102

EDCI 102 is an important introductory course to the Department of Education as well as an opportunity for students to gain early contact with students in a school setting.

The purposes of this course are:

  • to observe school-aged children in a classroom setting
  • to observe teachers managing classrooms
  • to talk with and interview school-aged students
  • to talk with and interview teachers
  • to talk with and interview administrators
  • to focus career direction and commitment (reaffirmation)

Students will have:

  1. An introduction to the field experience and Department of Education in a two-hour evening orientation the previous semester. (Students will be told date of orientation meetings when they gain restricted entry in Reid 213 during preregistration of Fall or Spring semester.) It is strongly suggested that students purchase the course packet at the MSU Bookstore prior to the orientation meeting.
  2. Eighteen (18) hours of field practicum
  3. Four (4) hours of seminar during semester in which student is registered in the course. Seminars are conducted over two evenings.
