Academic Advisors

Elementary and Secondary Education students are encouraged to visit the Education Advising Center each semester. Appointments can be made at anytime, preferably early in the semester. During the appointment, the student's personal course plan will be reviewed and revised as needed. Requirements for entrance to Teacher Education will be reviewed, also. Peer Advisors (trained student advisors) make appointments to meet with Elementary Education students as does the Director of the Advising Center.

Secondary Education, Transfer students, Second-degree students and change-of-major students should make an appointment with the Director of the Advising Center for their initial visit. Please bring information regarding previous college work with you to your appointment! It is critical that you bring the MSU Evaluation of Transfer Credits if you have received this report from the Registrar's Office.

You need an advisor's signature to:

  • drop or add a class
  • apply for entrance into Teacher Education program
(your TEPP form requires a signature)
  • apply for student teaching
  • apply for your Baccalaureate Degree

Elementary Education students (Freshman, Sophomores, and transfers) are advised through the Advising Center prior to their acceptance into Teacher Education and paraprofessional blocks.

Secondary Education students are provided assistance in locating the Teacher Education advisor in their major and receive detailed information and planning for professional preparation courses, required forms, course prerequisites, and standardized tests needed for entrance into Teacher Education.

Restricted entry to Education courses and personal data forms (PDFs) are available each semester in the Advising Center prior to pre-registration.

Education students are encouraged to read the bulletin board regularly in the hallway outside the Advising Center (132 Reid Hall) prior to pre-registration.
