Elementary Education Guidelines

  • Spontaneous writing sample completed during EDCI 208.
  • PPST (Pre-Professional Skills Test) standardized test should be taken immediately after your Math Core (Math 131) class. Plan to take it at least one full semester prior to your anticipated File Review date (9/15 or 2/15).
  • Complete your third writing sample, "Experiences with Children", on your own and submit the paper to 213 Reid for your file. Guidelines for the paper are available from the Advising Center.
  • Complete the "Application to the Teacher Education Program" (TEPP) prior to file review. You are responsible for updating this form prior to File Review and again prior to applying for Student Teaching. Attach to the TEPP all course transfer evaluations or on-course adjustment sheets supplied to you by the Registrar or your advisor. ALL GRADES ON THE FRONT OF THE FORM MUST BE "C" OR BETTER.
  • Student must maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA. GPA will be checked at File Review. Note: Transfer GPA will be added to your MSU GPA at this time.
  • Student must complete all 3 Core classes (Core W, Core V and Core M) with a 2.5 GPA (combined) for the cores. All cores must be passed with a "C" (no "C-" grades). Check your GPA -- you need to have higher grades than just 3 "C's" to reach the 2.5 required core GPA.
  • Submit "Request for File Review" form during the semester prior to your File Review.
  • Obtain a letter of acceptance into Teacher Education prior to attending a Paraprofessional Block Application meeting.
  • You must attend both a Block Application meeting and a Block Registration meeting each time you request admission to a Block.
  • Complete your Student Teaching Application one year prior to student teaching. Applications are available on the MSU web site and are submitted to 217 Reid.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR is required and must be current during your Student Teaching semester.
  • Apply for your Baccalaureate Degree one year prior to graduation. Complete the application with your faculty advisor. Reminder: Need 128 credits to graduate. Six credits must have "#" or "G" core.

The Education Advising Center needs to meet with you each semester to help you plan well and avoid problems prior to or during the file review. Make an appointment to meet with an advisor early each semester so getting your PDF (to register) is quick and easy!
