Undergraduate Programs

Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) undergraduate programs at Montana State University lead to initial teacher certification and are generally organized around programs in Elementary Education (Grades K-8,K-12) and Secondary Education (Grades 5-12).
Elementary and secondary teacher education programs at Montana State University are accredited by the State of Montana and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC).

Elementary Education
The Department of Education offers teacher preparation programs for students seeking teaching careers in grades kindergarten through eight (K-8). The programs are designed to provide a basic general education and the breadth of experience in the sciences, language arts, humanities, social studies, art, music, mathematics, and health enhancement necessary for a classroom teacher at these grade levels.

K12 Education
The Department of Education offers teacher education programs for students seeking teaching careers in specific subject areas for grades kindergarten through twelve. Most of the programs are inter-departmental, whereby students will be advised primarily through their major department in addition to education. Therefore, students will enroll in the departments offering the teaching options in their chosen areas.

Secondary Education
The Department of Education offers teacher education programs for students seeking teaching careers in specific subject areas for grades five through twelve. Most of the programs are inter-departmental, with the exception of General Science Broadfield, Social Studies Broadfield, and Technology Education Broadfield, which are totally administered and housed within the Department of Education. Therefore, students who wish to complete any of the aforementioned majors will enroll in the Department of Education, whereas students who wish to complete any of the other majors will enroll in the departments offering the teaching options in their chosen areas.
