Currently, only students who are enrolled at MSU can apply through the new online scholarship application process, Cat $cholarships, through AcademicWorks portal. The system requires that students log in with their Net ID and password, which incoming students don't receive until summer orientation sessions.


Education Scholarships

Earl and Fay Doney Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, and Graduates
  • Enrolled or planning to enroll in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Development/Education, or Counseling
  • Graduates of a Montana High School
  • Or applicants shall be current or former students of Yellowstone Academy of the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch and to Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch Staff who have identified themselves to the scholarship committee by February 1 of each year. (The Montana High School and full-time enrollment shall be waived for the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch staff)

Royal and Norma Johnson Family Education Fund

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
  • Students must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a K-12 teacher training program at MSU

Lynn Johnstone Early Childhood Education Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
  • First undergraduate degree
  • Must be majoring in Early Childhood Education or Child Development in the Department of Health and Human Development or majoring in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood option in the Department of Education
  • Demonstrate teaching potential

Dr. William A. Johnstone Excellence in Education Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
  • Full-time undergraduate enrolled in teacher education program
  • 3.0 GPA or better

Leo N. Knuti Technology Education Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
  • Students pursuing a degree in Technology Education option
  • Based on scholarship and leadership

Lea May Miller Memorial Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
  • Majoring in education
  • At least a 3.0 GPA
  • Preference given to traditionally underrepresented population of students, especially single parent students

Dick & Helen Olsen Memorial Scholarship

  • Demonstrate financial need (have a FAFSA on file with Financial Aid)
  • Pursuing a teaching degree or teaching credential
  • Student is pursuing a degree in agricultural education, elementary education, secondary education, technology education, math teaching, English teaching, or art education.
  • Preference to a undergraduate; however, graduate students are eligible if they meet the criteria

Gary J. & Boyd A. Smith Memorial Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
  • Students must be enrolled or plan to enroll in Elementary Education
  • Recipient must have  good citizenship and character
  • Recipient shall demonstrate financial need through Financial Aid Office

Student Success Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
  • Must be enrolled full time in the College of EHHD
  • 2.5 GPA or above
  • Must exhibit service to the community and/or school
  • Must exhibit commitment to profession

Health and Human Development Scholarships

John and Marilyn (Milburn) Asbridge Scholarship

  • Undergraduate or graduate students
  • Enrolled in a Health Enhancement K-12, Nutrition, or Movement Science (Human Performance)
  • Preference to Montana residents
  • Preference to U.S. citizens

John W. “Brick” Breeden Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
  • Full-time student
  • Enrolled or register in curriculum within Health Enhancement or Movement Science
  • Students receiving full or partial athletic scholarship not eligible
  • Good citizenship and character
  • 2.5 GPA or above
  • For incoming freshman, must be in upper half of graduating class

Lula Mae Clay Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior
  • Must be enrolled in the curriculum traditionally known as Home Economics (Human Development & Family Science, Early Childhood Education, Food and Nutrition, or Family Science)

Fern Erb Conners Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior
  • Must be a graduate of Montana High School
  • Undergraduate female enrolled in the curriculum traditionally known as Home Economics (Human Development & Family Science, Early Childhood Education, Food and Nutrition, or FCS education))
  • The first scholarship each year shall be designated for an incoming Freshman; the second for a continuing student and additional awards at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee
  • Full-time student
  • Recipient should demonstrate a strong evidence of making  life-long use of their education in their major

Hazel Eddy Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior
  • Must be Montana High School Graduate
  • Pursuing a degree in Home Economics related area (Human Development & Family Science, Early Childhood Education, Food and Nutrition, and FCS education)

Gus and Nikki Gnehm Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior
  • Recipients  must be either instructing or volunteering in the Montana State University Ski Program or the Eagle Mount Ski Program
  • Must be recommended by the Head MSU ski instructor or the Eagle Mount ski program coordinator
  • The award shall not be based on need nor shall it be restricted to any academic major at the University

Lora S. Hedegaard Scholarship

  • Must be enrolled in Human Development & Family Science or the curricula traditionally known as Home Economics (Human Development & Family Sciences, Early Childhood Education, Food and Nutrition, and Family Science)

Lynn Johnstone Early Childhood Education Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior
  • Enrolled in first undergraduate degree
  • Must be majoring in Early Childhood Education or Child Development in the Department of Health and Human Development, or majoring in Elementary Education with the Early Childhood Education option in the Department of Education
  • Demonstrate teaching potential
  • Full-time student
  • 3.0 GPA or better

Helen Sandvig Chauner Physical Education Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophmore, Junior, and Senior
  • Majoring in health enhancement (physical education)
  • Demonstrate financial need (must file a FASFA)
  • US citizen
  • Good academic standing
  • Good citizenship and character

Helyn McGown Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior , Senior, and Graduates fellowships
  • Majoring in curricula known as Movement Sciences, including Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Pre-Physical Therapy, health and human performance, biomechanics, and related or successor curricula

Angus and Anne McMillan Family Scholarship (awarded to HHD in 2012-13)

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior
  • Majoring in Human Development & Family Science
  • Alternates between College of Agriculture and the Department of H.H.D.

Marie Moebus Undergraduate Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior
  • GPA of at least 3.0
  • Be accepted or enrolled in a degree program in Human Development & Family Science, Child Development, Food and Nutrition, family & consumer sciences education, Consumer Science, or Early Childhood Education

Mollie Allen Strand Memorial Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior
  • Recipient shall demonstrate financial need through Financial Aid Office
  • Must be enrolled or plan to enroll in Home Economics (Human Development & Family Science, Early Childhood Education, Food and Nutrition,  and FCS education)
  • Montana residents
  • Recipients must be of good citizenship and character
  • Full-time student
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress
  • If for any reason a designated scholarship recipient should fail to enroll, or having enrolled should failed the course of study for the academic year in question, the unexpended portion of the award shall be retained

Student Success Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
  • Must be enrolled full time in the College of EHHD
  • 2.5 GPA or above
  • Must exhibit service to the community and/or school
