  • Any student needing special assistance on graduation day for himself/herself or for an invited guest should call 406-994-6329, as soon as possible. Accessibility Map

The day of the ceremony:

SATURDAY, May 9, 2009:

  • The EHHD ceremony begins promptly at 8 a.m. in the Shroyer Gymnasium, which is located on the west end of the Hosaeus Health and P.E. complex on Grant Street.
  • The EHHD ceremony will last about 1 hour 20 min. This will provide time to proceed to the university main Commencement Ceremony.
  • Students should arrive at Shroyer Gym at about 7:00 to 7:15 a.m. There will be juice, coffee, and pastries for students and guests.
  • Before or by 7:30 a.m. students should report in cap and gown to the tables set up with commencement name cards. Please double check the information on the card, and make corrections as necessary. After picking up your name card, students will line up with your department. There will be ushers stationed at various points to assist you at any time.
  • Students may line up in random order. It is important to keep the name card throughout the ceremony. The card is given to “a reader” who will announce your name as you walk across the stage to receive your diploma cover.
  • The processional will begin promptly at 8 a.m. and will be led by the deans, stage party, and the EHHD faculty. A faculty member who has been designated Grand Marshall will lead the students of each department.
  • A photographer will take your picture immediately after you receive your diploma cover. This will be sent to you in the mail to the address on your name card, where you will be given purchase options.
  • Only diploma covers are awarded to students. Students who have completed requirements in December 2008 may pick up their diplomas between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. the day of commencement at the Registrar’s Office. Picture ID is required. All other diplomas will be mailed.
  • Shortly after the EHHD ceremony, students will line up to march in the processional for the university's main Commencement Ceremony. There will be a marshall holding a sign to lead you to the line up area on the southeast end of the Worthington Arena.
  • Students do not walk across the stage during the university's main Commencement Ceremony. Each college is recognized by the Dean and the President.

HELPFUL INFORMATION

TRAVEL:

If you have family coming from out of town, plan now for hotel accomodations. Hotels around graduation weekend fill very fast.

WHAT TO WEAR:

If you are not sure what tassel color, gown, hood, etc. to purchase and wear for the ceremony, the MSU bookstore has everything you need. Please refer to Jostens for further information.

Typically, undergraduates wear a black gown with a black tassel.

Honor students wear either a blue or gold tassel, depending on the honors level. Cords are not worn unless you are in the honors program. There is a list of honor students at the MSU bookstore.

For undergraduates, tassels are worn on the right side, then moved to the left - once granted their degree.
