2009-2010 Scholarship List
Reminder to students:
- If you are applying for several scholarships, only one recommendation form per faculty, employer or equivalent is needed.
- If filling out more than one application to the college
of EHHD, all applications can be returned in one envelope.
- Disbursement of scholarship funds occurs in late spring of '09 and is dependent upon verification
of financial, academic and other qualifying criteria.
Edna Berg Scholarship

Ardys Six Killer Clarke Scholarship
- Junior or Senior
- Enrolled in the Teacher Education Program
- At least 2.75 GPA
- Evidence of American Indian heritage
Earl and Fay Doney Scholarship
- Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate
- Enrolled or planning to enroll in Elementary Education,
Early Childhood Development/Education, or Counseling
- Graduates of a Montana high school
- Or applicants shall be current or former students of Yellowstone Academy of the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch and to Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch Staff who have identified themselves to the scholarship committee by February 1 of each year. (The Montana High School and full-time enrollment shall be waived for the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch staff)

- Must be majoring in Early Childhood Education or Child Development in the Department of Health and Human Development; or majoring in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood option in the Department of Education

Dr. William A. Johnstone Excellence in Education Scholarship
- Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
- Full-time undergraduate enrolled in Teacher Education

Carolyn Daniels Patrick Scholarship
- For Seniors only
- Students must be pursuing a degree in Technology Education
- Preference will be given to married students who are graduates
of Montana High Schools, Idaho or other Western States
- Scholarship will be available only during the academic term in which the student is student teaching.
Earl N. and Lois M. Ringo Scholarship (One graduate award and one undergraduate award)
- Senior and Graduates
- Rising senior status in Elementary or Secondary Education,
preference to Montana high school graduates
- Graduate award to a student in a Masters program within the College of EHHD, preference given to graduates of Montana Institutions of Higher Learning
- Recipient shall demonstrate financial need through Financial Aid Office

Gary J. Smith Memorial Scholarship
- Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
- Students must be enrolled or plan to enroll in Elementary Education
- Recipient must have good citizenship and character

Sommerfeld Family Teacher of Promise Award
- For Seniors only
- Dedication to the profession of Elementary Education
- Teaching potential as exhibited by such traits as 1) communicating enthusiastically with each student at his or her level; 2) challenging students yet demonstrating to them that it is okay to make mistakes because they learn from the experience; and 3) bonding with the students and imparting to them the joy of learning
- Innovative teaching that makes learning both exciting and relevant to the students’ lives
- Going beyond what is expected in the classroom--making an impact to their school and local community through their actions
- Outstanding citizenship and character
- Grade point average and financial need shall not be used
as criteria for selection of the recipient. However, if two candidates
are essentially equal in the opinion of the selection subcommittee
and only one is a graduate of a Montana high school, preference
will be given to the Montana high school graduate.
Student Success Scholarship
- Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
- Must be enrolled full-time in the College of EHHD
- 2.5 GPA or above
- Must exhibit service to the community and/or school
- Must exhibit commitment to profession
Louise M. Taylor Memorial Scholarship
- Senior in Elementary Education
- Award is to be used in the final year prior to graduation
- 3.3 GPA or at the minimum level required to graduate with honors
- Must show promise and ability to be an outstanding elementary teacher
IA Technology Education Scholarship
- Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
- Full-time students in Technology Education
- Financial need considered if students with equal academic ability are candidates

Wilson-Humphreys Family Fund
