Department of Education Scholarships

DEADLINE: January 17, 2014 at 5 p.m.
The scholarship application proceess is now closed.

PLEASE READ BELOW BEFORE FILLING OUT YOUR APPLICATIONS:

  1. You will need TWO recommendations. If you are applying for several scholarships, the same two recommendation forms can be used for multiple scholarship applications.
  2. Notify those writing a recommendation for you that you will be emailing them a link to the recommendation form. Have them submit the recommendation electronically..
  3. Include one unofficial copy of your transcript. We need these electronically, so please copy and paste, save, and send to ehhdscholarships@montana.edu with the word "transcript" and your last name in the subject line.
  4. Disbursement of scholarship funds occurs in summer of 2014 and is dependent upon verification of financial, academic and other qualifying criteria.

Edna Berg Scholarship

  • Applicants should be enrolled in the graduate level Library Media K-12 Certification/Endorsement Program
  • Graduate student

Joan Bowman Memorial Scholarship

  • Applicants should be enrolled in the graduate level Library Media K-12 Certification/Endorsement Program
  • Preference to teachers in a Montana school system
  • Graduate student

Ardys Six Killer Clarke Scholarship

  • Junior or Senior in the upcoming academic year
  • Enrolled in the Teacher Education Program
  • At least 2.75 GPA
  • Evidence of American Indian heritage

Earl and Fay Doney Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate
  • Enrolled or planning to enroll in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Development/Education, or Counseling
  • Graduates of a Montana high school
  • Or applicants shall be current or former students of Yellowstone Academy of the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch and to Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch Staff who have identified themselves to the scholarship committee by February 1 of each year. (The Montana High School and full-time enrollment shall be waived for the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch staff)
  • May be renewed to recipient

Royal and Norma Johnson Family Education Fund

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
  • Students must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a K-12 teacher training program at MSU

Lynn Johnstone Early Childhood Education Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
  • Enrolled in first undergraduate degree
  • Must be majoring in Early Childhood Education or Child Development in the Department of Health and Human Development; or majoring in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood option in the Department of Education
  • Demonstrate teaching potential
  • 3.0 GPA or better
  • Full-time student

Dr. William A. Johnstone Excellence in Education Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
  • Full-time undergraduate enrolled in Teacher Education Program
  • 3.0 GPA or better

Kappa Delta Pi

  • Sophomore, Junior or Senior in the upcoming academic year
  • Must be majoring in Education
  • 3.0 GPA or better

Ralph Kenck Scholarship

  • Sophomore, Junior or Senior in the upcoming academic year
  • Enrolled in Technology Education

Russell Kessner Industrial Education Scholarship

  • Sophomore, Junior or Senior in the upcoming academic year
  • Must be a Montana resident and graduate of a Montana high school
  • Students must be pursuing a degree in Technology Education option
  • 2.5 GPA or better
  • Member of Technology Education Club
  • Good citizenship and character
  • Full-time students with satisfactory progress
  • Demonstrate interest in areas of industry
  • One reference from TE faculty and one of student’s choice

Leo N. Knuti Technology Education Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
  • Students pursuing a degree in Technology Education option
  • Based on scholarship and leadership

Flora Martin Student Success Scholarship

  • Junior or Senior in the upcoming academic year
  • Must be pursuing a degree in College of Education, Health and Human Development

Lea Mae Miller Memorial Scholarship (awarded to Ed. in 2014-15)

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
  • At least a 3.0 GPA
  • Preference given to traditionally underrepresented population of students, especially single parent students

Dick & Helen Olsen Memorial Scholarship

  • Demonstrate financial need (have a FAFSA on file with Financial Aid)
  • Pursuing a teaching degree or teaching credential
  • Student is pursuing a degree in agricultural education, elementary education, secondary education, technology education, math teaching, English teaching, or art education.
  • Preference to a undergraduate; however, graduate students are eligible if they meet the criteria

Parent/Family Association Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
  • Full-time student in the College of Education, Health and Human Development

Carolyn Daniels Patrick Scholarship

  • For Seniors only
  • Students must be pursuing a degree in Technology Education
  • Preference will be given to married students who are graduates of Montana High Schools, Idaho or other Western States
  • Scholarship will be available only during the academic term in which the student is student teaching.

Phi Delta Kappa Student Teaching Scholarship

  • Senior in education
    Student teaching in fall 2014 or spring 2015

Earl N. and Lois M. Ringo Scholarship

  • Senior and Graduates
  • Rising senior status in Elementary or Secondary Education, preference to Montana high school graduates
  • Graduate award to a student in a Masters program within the College of EHHD, preference given to graduates of Montana Institutions of Higher Learning
  • Recipient shall demonstrate financial need through Financial Aid Office
  • Full-time students

Gary J. & Boyd A. Smith Memorial Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
  • Students must be enrolled or plan to enroll in Elementary Education
  • Recipient must have  good citizenship and character
  • Recipient shall demonstrate financial need through Financial Aid Office

Sommerfeld Family Teacher of Promise Award

  • For Seniors only
  • Dedication to the profession of Elementary Education
  • Teaching potential as exhibited by such traits as 1) communicating enthusiastically with each student at his or her level; 2) challenging students yet demonstrating to them that it is okay to make mistakes because they learn from the experience; and 3) bonding with the students and imparting to them the joy of learning
  • Innovative teaching that makes learning both exciting and relevant to the students’ lives
  • Going beyond what is expected in the classroom--making an impact to their school and local community through their actions
  • Outstanding citizenship and character
  • Grade point average and financial need shall not be used as criteria for selection of the recipient. However, if two candidates are essentially equal in the opinion of the selection subcommittee and only one is a graduate of a Montana high school, preference will be given to the Montana high school graduate.

Student Success Scholarship

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
  • Must be enrolled full-time in the College of EHHD
  • 2.5 GPA or above
  • Must exhibit service to the community and/or school
  • Must exhibit commitment to profession

Louise M. Taylor Memorial Scholarship

  • Senior in Elementary Education in the upcoming academic year
  • Award is to be used in the final semester prior to graduation
  • 3.3 GPA or at the minimum level required to graduate with honors
  • Must show promise and ability to be an outstanding elementary teacher

IA Technology Education Scholarship

  • Sophomore, Junior or Senior in the upcoming academic year
  • Full-time students in Technology Education
  • Financial need considered if students with equal academic ability are candidates

Wilson-Humphreys Family Fund

  • Junior or Senior in the upcoming academic year
  • Full-time students enrolled in Elementary Education
  • Must be admitted to the Teacher Preparation Program
  • 3.1 GPA or above

Barbara Zuck Scholarship

  • Undergraduate or Graduate student
  • Majoring in Education or seeking a graduate degree in Education
