The Service Learning Advisory Board (SLAB), formed in 2003, engages MSU faculty, administrators, and community representatives in ongoing efforts to advance the use and recognition of academic service learning at MSU. Some of the projects that the Service Learning Advisory Board has worked on include the creation of the President’s Award for Excellence in Service Learning and the development of a service learning course designation process for faculty. These projects have helped to further the institutionalization of service learning at MSU.  SLAB also works to develop and implement strategies for encouraging more faculty members who are currently teaching service learning courses to identify them as such through the course designation process.
