2019-2020 Position Description

The Office of Student Engagement (OSE) provides and facilitates student engagement opportunities for MSU students through a variety of programs, events, services, and activities. We are THE HUB for students interested in connecting with their fellow Bobcats through student government, student organizations, programs and events, and engaging in service to the community.

Associated Students of MSU (ASMSU) is the student government association serving as the elected voice of MSU-Bozeman students.  ASMSU Student Directors within the Office of Student Engagement are responsible for managing programs for students and the campus community.  Their programs and positions are paid for by student fee dollars.

Work Schedule: Flexible, depending on academic schedule.  Varies 8-12 hours a week during academic year (excluding university holidays & breaks).

Employment Start Date:  August 28th, 2019

Wage: $10/Hour - $1600/Stipend

Eligibility: 

  • Must be a full-time enrolled MSU-Bozeman student fall 2019 and spring 2020 (at least 7 credits per semester)
  • Preference will be given to students with work study funding

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The business manager assistant will assist ASMSU’s business manager in executing the mission of ASMSU. Primary responsibilities include creating weekly presentations for the ASMSU senate, reconciling cash deposits, analyzing payroll data, general office work, and assisting the ASMSU executive team with projects throughout the academic year.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint 
  • Ability to take initiative 
  • Ability to ask questions and listen 
  • Strong passion for helping students

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Business Manager is the business and administrative position supporting the business operations of ASMSU.
  • Must have exceptional organization and communication skills and be willing to work on a team and within the scope of the organization.
  • Holds a minimum of 7 office hours per week and works closely with the Director of Operations, the Assistant Director of Operations, and Student Engagement and Leadership Advisor to create and present the Programs and Administration budgets during ASMSU spring budgeting.
  • Prepares and presents the overall ASMSU budget.
  • Gives weekly reports to Senate at a regular Senate meeting on each program, and tracks and records yearly inventory of all ASMSU programs.
  • Additional duties include making weekly deposits, reconciling, tracking hours worked by program directors, and attend weekly Administrative, Executive, Finance Board, and Senate meetings.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience in business/accounting strongly preferred

Arts & Exhibits Student Director

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Arts and Exhibits Director is responsible for showcasing visual arts exhibits by locally, regionally, and nationally-known artists.
  • Other duties include promoting Arts & Exhibits events, maintaining gallery space, coordinating installation, exhibition, reception, and de-installation of all art exhibits, monitoring attendance at gallery exhibits and events, and leading the biannual MSU Student Art Market with the Assistant.
  • Must conduct a call for entry, create a selection committee, review applications, and select artists for exhibitions in The Exit Gallery and the Information Technology Center in the Renne Library. Also conduct two Calls for Entry (one per semester) for Art Market and a Call for Proposals for spring visiting artists.
  • Collaborate biannually with other departments (Fall) and guilds through a proposal platform (Spring) on campus to select professional visiting artists to engage with MSU students through demonstrations, lectures, and receptions, as well as host an exhibit of their work in conjunction with their visits.
  • Create social media and marketing action plans to be implemented by Assistant Director. Create Art Market action plans and join assistant in implementing Art Market administration.
  • Hire, manage, and supervise student employees of the Exit Gallery. Meet regularly with Assistant Director to discuss employees, assistant duties, and any concerns.
  • Managing a budget which includes routine presentations to the ASMSU Senate and Finance Board.
  • Attend program director meetings. Work collaboratively with other directors in the OSE office.

 

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • The Director must have exceptional organization, management, and communication skills.
  • Preferred experience in art installation or experience installing one’s own work.
  • Preferred experience in leadership or team management.

Arts & Exhibits Assistant Student Director 

2019-2020 Position Description

The Assistant works a maximum of 110 hours per semester at a rate of $10 per hour. Hours will be approximately 4-5 hours per regular week and 10-20 during reception and art sale weeks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Arts & Exhibits Assistant Director assists the Arts & Exhibits Director with implementing various exhibits in the Exit Gallery, on and off campus throughout the year.

  • Assists with Installation and deinstallation, and gallery reception implementation. Implements poster distribution, social media and marketing plans, and supply closet maintenance.
  • Submitting reception catering invoice after receptions.
  • Implementing art market organization, social media and marketing, scheduling, and contact.
  • The Assistant will be the first point of attendant management in regards to scheduling conflicts.
  • The Assistant will be expected to fill out and submit monthly hours for attendants.
  • The Assistant may also assist the Director with any and all tasks as found in this program.

  • The ASMSU Student Director of Diversity and Inclusion is responsible for promoting and actively working towards an inclusive and welcoming environment within ASMSU and the MSU campus.
  • The Director will foster partnerships with organizations at MSU and within the Bozeman community to enhance and expand diversity and inclusion awareness, services, programming, and education.
  • Organize an engaging speaker event in the fall, and the Annual Diversity Symposium at MSU in the spring.
  • Responsible for managing a budget which includes routine presentations to the ASMSU Senate and Finance Board, in addition to advocating for any supplemental funds that may be needed.
  • In order to maintain a strong relationship between the elected officials of the student body, the Director will meet with their liaison no less than twice a month keeping them informed of upcoming events and initiatives.
  • Will be asked to attend bi-monthly program director meetings.

Films Director

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Films Director is responsible for all aspects of operating the ASMSU Procrastinator Theater.
  • The position is open to all majors, while experience with audio/visual technology and video editing software is preferred.
  • Basic requirements include having a passion for movies, taking pride in entertaining audiences, being capable to work both independently and in team environments, and acute attention to detail.
  • Responsibilities include making all programming decisions, working with film distributors to obtain rights for film exhibition and negotiate contracts, managing and scheduling a staff of Theater Operators, developing strategies for marketing communications and effectively executing those plans, managing and maintaining theater technology, facilities, and resources in collaboration with SUB Administration, Conference and Events Services, and third party contractors.
  • The Films Director also plans and organizes special events in the theater – both independently and with campus and community organizations.
  • The Director will be responsible for hiring and managing a minimum of 6 associates to help with the production of the theater.
  • In addition, the Director is responsible for managing a budget which includes routine presentations to the ASMSU Senate and Finance Board.Lastly, the Director will be asked to attend bi-monthly program director meetings.
  • The Director will be advised by the OSE Assistant Director and supervised by the ASMSU Vice President.

Latenight Streamline Student Director

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Latenight Director leads the Streamline Latenight bus attendants and coordinates all aspects of the Latenight bus program.
  • The Director hires, trains, schedules, and manages a team of students and should have the ability to lead the team and assist in Latenight runs, when needed. This may include being on call and available to assist in last minute requests and situations.
  • The Director must be able to think in high-pressure situations, have a desire to be committed to preventing drunk driving accidents, and have a passion for environmentally- friendly transportation.
  • CPR and first-aid training is preferred.
  • The Director will work closely with Karst Stage, Streamline, and HRDC to continue improving and growing the Latenight program.
  • The Director is responsible for distributing Streamline maps/schedules around campus (Ask Us Desk, campus offices, residence halls) and within the Bozeman community and ensure that the locations stay stocked.
  • The Director is responsible for managing a budget which includes routine presentations to the ASMSU Senate and Finance Board.
  • The Director will organize the MSU Airport Shuttle during Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring Break
  • Lastly, the Director will be asked to attend bi-monthly program director meetings.
  • The Director will be supervised by the ASMSU Vice President and advised by the OSE Director of Operations.

PACE Board Chair/Director

2019-2020 Position Description

The Office of Student Engagement (OSE) provides and facilitates student engagement opportunities for MSU students through a variety of programs, events, services, and activities. PACE (Program and Campus Events Board) is the student program board that works to bring MSU students an array of fun activities and events to attend on and off campus, including concerts, comedy shows, trivia nights, motivational speakers, and more.

 

Associated Students of MSU (ASMSU) is the student government association serving as the elected voice of MSU-Bozeman students.  ASMSU Student Directors within the Office of Student Engagement are responsible for managing programs for students and the campus community.  Their programs and positions are paid for by student fee dollars.

  • Responsible for leading and carrying out the mission of PACE.
  • Attend weekly office hours (15 hours/week).
  • Serve as direct supervisor/advisor to 8 student PACE Board Members. Conduct 1-1 meetings to provide guidance and mentorship.
  • Organize and co-lead PACE Board orientation and retreats.
  • Organize and facilitate weekly PACE Board meetings.
  • Lead the PACE Board team to bring new and innovative events to campus.
  • Serve as a direct contact for all PACE Board members, providing strategic direction and vision on PACE Board events.
  • Delegate tasks to PACE Board members to ensure successful event organization and execution.
  • Facilitate and create event learning outcomes, including programming around those outcomes.
  • Facilitate and lead event evaluation.
  • Serve as a liaison between the PACE Board and the ASMSU Vice President and Student Engagement and Leadership Advisor.
  • Foster partnerships with offices and other units at MSU to enhance and expand the student experience at MSU.This includes event collaboration and serving on university committees as asked and assigned. 
  • Responsible for managing a budget which includes routine presentations to the ASMSU Senate and Finance Board, in addition to advocating for any supplemental funds that may be needed.
  • Facilitate leadership and development trainings of PACE Board team.
  • Meet 1:1 with ASMSU Vice President and Student Engagement and Leadership Advisor weekly.
  • Assist with the interview process and hiring of the PACE Board Members as needed.
  • Assist OSE staff in presenting about OSE at Orientations, MSU Fridays, in classrooms, and at other events.

  • Strong leadership skills, willing to take initiative, and experience managing and leading peers.

The successful candidates will:

  • The Director must have exceptional organization and communication skills and be willing to work with other ASMSU programs and campus and community partners.
  • Prepared to commit to a set schedule during the academic year, sharing space, equipment and supplies with other student employees
  • Willing to make a one-academic year commitment to the position (excluding university holidays & breaks);
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, while also functioning as a team player;
  • Able to maintain a high attention to detail and strong organizational skills;
  • Responsible management of student fee dollars;
  • Comfortable communicating with the public via e-mail, phone and in-person;

PACE Board Member (8 positions available)

2019-2020 Position Description

The Office of Student Engagement (OSE) provides and facilitates student engagement opportunities for MSU students through a variety of programs, events, services, and activities. We are THE HUB for students interested in connecting with their fellow Bobcats through student government, student organizations, programs and events, and engaging in service to the community.

 

PACE (Program and Campus Events Board) is the student program board that works to bring MSU students an array of fun activities and events to attend on and off campus, including concerts, comedy shows, trivia nights, motivational speakers, and more.

 

Associated Students of MSU (ASMSU) is the student government association serving as the elected voice of MSU-Bozeman students.  ASMSU Student Directors within the Office of Student Engagement are responsible for managing programs for students and the campus community.  Their programs and positions are paid for by student fee dollars.

Work Schedule: Flexible, depending on academic schedule.  10 hours/week during academic year (excluding university holidays & breaks).

Employment Start Date:  August 15, 2019

Wage: Stipend - $440/month

Eligibility: 

  • Must be a full-time enrolled MSU-Bozeman student fall 2019 and spring 2020 (at least 7 credits per semester) or pay activity fee.
  • Preference will be given to students with work study funding

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for carrying out the mission of PACE.
  • Attend weekly office hours (10 hours/week).
  • Attend weekly PACE Board meetings.
  • Work as a team to bring new and innovative events to campus.
  • Take the lead on at least 2 events per academic year. Examples include: M photo, Comedy Nights, Trivia Nights, Homecoming Parade, and more.
  • Negotiate contracts with potential acts.
  • Coordinate with Marketing Team to ensure successful event outreach.
  • Assist with creation of event learning outcomes, including programming around those outcomes.
  • Assist with event evaluation.

  • We are looking for 1-2 members of this 8-person board to have experience in tech setup (lights, sound, backline, equipment, etc.).
  • We are looking for 1 member of this 8-person board to have DJ experience.Own equipment not necessary.  We will provide equipment for jobs.
