Born and raised in Northeast Wyoming, I came to Montana via South Dakota where I earned my English Education degree. While acquiring my Master’s degree here at MSU, my focus was on the lack of correlation between what secondary teachers think students need to know for college and what university instructors think high school teachers are or should be teaching. Prior to teaching writing at the university, I taught grades 9-12 and AP Literature and Composition in a small town in South Dakota. My own experiences transitioning from secondary to post-secondary teaching reflect the gap I see students face as well. Pedagogically, I’m interested in how we foster a dialogue between writing instructors at both levels so that our students receive better and less prescriptive writing instruction.
