kids in the park

Above, August 31,2002: FGH children of all ages attend the annual Shakespeare in the Parks event over Labor Day weekend. Games and activities like "Go Fish" ,"The Dart Throw", "Face Painting" and "The Magic Show" were very popular. Every child walked away with some sort of prize. Family & Graduate Housing Programming Objectives

"May you live all the days of your life." --Jonathan Swift

The purpose of the programmatic effort at MSU Family & Graduate Housing is to provide a sense of community that supports the academic success and personal wellness of students and their families. Each semester free and low-cost programs are offered to meet the varied needs of residents. FGH Community Assistants help plan these events and welcome input and suggestions for program ideas.

A Community Assistant (CA) is a resident on-staff to serve each area of the Family & Graduate Housing community.

This CA is responsible for a number of tasks promoting the concept of community in each neighborhood. Some of these duties include:

  • Welcoming new residents
  • Assisting with conflict resolution
  • Assisting in the development of social, educational, and wellness activities for youth and adults
  • Insuring a safe and secure living environment for residents
  • Reaching out to residents during periods of stress and turmoil
  • Acting as a liaison between residents and the Family & Graduate Housing Office
  • Creating an environment that is conducive to academics

In addition to special events and programs, Family & Graduate Housing Community Assistants help coordinate other programs and services that are on-going throughout the school year and summer.

Feel free to contact us with any questions or suggestions!
