Step 3: Orientation, Advising and Registration

Orientation

All new and transfer students (unless you are a current MSU student) must attend a Gallatin College orientation session before they can register for classes. Gallatin College offers several orientation sessions before each semester begins (August, January, and May). The next upcoming orientation date is August 1. Please call 406-994-5536 to sign up for your preferred orientation session.

Academic Advising

During orientation you will meet with an academic advisors who can help you design a program that meets your needs. That way you’ll know which classes to take, which order to take them in, and when you’ll graduate.

Advisors can help you:

  • Figure out the best program to meet your needs
  • Help connect you with other campus resources and programs to support your success
  • Register for classes

Students can make an academic advising appointment by contacting the Student Success Coordinator, Nicole Berg at 994-5536 or nicole.berg@montana.edu

Registering for Classes

You will initially register for classes at orientation. To register, go to MyInfo and select enter secure area. You will need to log in (directions are on the web page). Once logged in, go to the student services tab, and then select registration. Under registration click on the add/drop classes link and find the courses you are planning to register for. Note: you will need an advisor code to register, which you will receive at orientation.

To place you in the appropriated classes, you may need to take a math placement test (MPLEX) or a Writing Placement test. Both of these tests are free and are only used for placement purposes. You will register for any needed tests at orientation.
