Letter to Current Students

June 17, 2010

Dear MSU-GF College of Technology – Bozeman Student,

I am pleased to share some news that you may have heard about recently. The Montana Board of Regents transferred the administrative responsibility for the College of Technology in Bozeman programs from MSU-Great Falls COT to MSU-Bozeman, effective July 1, 2010. This is a positive development for the COT extension in Bozeman as it will allow us to continue to provide the same quality programs and services locally under the administration of MSU-Bozeman. This will be a better service delivery model for you as a student because your support services will be right here on the Bozeman campus. We have been proud to have been associated with MSU-Great Falls for these first years in Bozeman, but now we all believe a more direct association with MSU here in Bozeman is the best choice for students and the on-going growth of our programs here in the Gallatin Valley.

The COT operations will be renamed the Gallatin College Programs at Montana State University. The staff and faculty of the COT in Bozeman will be transferred to the Gallatin College Programs at MSU. As part of the transition, the offices of the Gallatin College Programs will be moving to Hamilton Hall in the center of the MSU campus in early August. With this move, we will be adding our own classroom, state-of-the-art computer lab, and additional space for tutoring, advising, and other services. We think you will find this a convenient location given the proximity to the SUB, library, and other MSU classrooms and services.

This transfer will not change any of the programs or courses that are currently offered. The fall 2010 courses will be taught by the same faculty at the previously scheduled times. Students that are currently enrolled in fall 2010 courses, or who have recently applied, will have their enrollments and admissions packet transferred to Gallatin College Programs at MSU. If you are graduating in the 2010-2011 academic year, you will be in the first graduating class of the new Gallatin College programs at Montana State University!

The staffs at MSU-Great Falls, MSU-Bozeman and Gallatin College Programs are working hard to make this transition as smooth as possible for you. It is our commitment to manage the changeover with minimal effect to you. The transition will create a couple of changes that you should know:

  1. Your Financial Aid will now be processed through MSU-Bozeman's Financial Aid Office.
    1. If you have completed your 2010-2011 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) already, you must go back into your FAFSA online and add the MSU-Bozeman FAFSA School Code, 002532. This will expedite the processing of your financial aid for fall 2010 through the Financial Aid Department at MSU Bozeman.
    2. If you have not completed your 2010-2011 FAFSA, please go to www.fafsa.ed.gov to access the online form and use the MSU Bozeman FAFSA School Code, 002532.
  2. The proposed tuition and fees schedule for Gallatin College Programs is attached. The total cost of your education will be similar to the amount you paid at MSU-Great Falls. Your bill and your student information will be available through the MSU Banner Web MyInfo.

As we move through the transition we encourage you to contact: Tabby Jagger-Academic Advisor (tabby.jagger@msugf.edu 994-5595 or Ryan Haskins-Director of Workforce Programs (rhaskins@msugf.edu 994-6151) with any questions or concerns. An MSU website page www.montana.edu/gallatincollege/ has been established to provide information about the transition.

We hope you are enjoying your summer and look forward to seeing you at Gallatin College Programs this fall!

Sincerely,

Bob Hietala
Dean of Gallatin College Programs
