Gallatin Earth Celebration

The Story of Stuff and The Impact of Overconsumption:

A Multimedia Presentation with Allison Cook

Wednesday, April 20th, 7:30pm

MSU Strand Union Ballrooms

Launching one of the most successful environmental viral media campaigns known, the 2007 animated short film The Story of Stuff revealed a system in crisis and challenged citizens to reconsider our consumer culture. Released online, it quickly became one of the most widely-view environmental short films of all time and has since expanded into an incredibly successful series of six documentary films, each exploring the environmental and social impacts of various products or policies.  A book and classroom teaching tools have also been developed.

On the evening of April 20, 2011, Allison Cook, Special Project Coordinator and longest serving staff person from the Story of Stuff Project will give a presentation at MSU’s Strand Union.  Drawing on the content of the films, Cook’s presentation will focus on the issues surrounding our addiction to “stuff” and the affect this has on communities worldwide. Cook maintains that the silver lining of such an all-pervasive problem is that there are so many points of intervention and her presentation will shed light on how it is possible to change our waste-based culture and live more sustainably.

This event is hosted by the ASMSU Sustainability Center as part of the 2011 Gallatin Earth Celebration.  It is free and open to the public. For more information contact 994-6873, ASMSUsustain@montana.edu.
