Saturday, April 16th
Clean Up Day & Celebration in the Park, 8:30am – 1:30pm
On April 16th from 8:30am-1:00pm, the City of Bozeman and MSU will host a citywide clean-up of parks, trails, neighborhoods, and other public spaces. Citizens will meet at Bogert Park starting at 8:30am for supplies, maps, coffee, and snacks. After collecting waste and recyclables, volunteers are invited to the Park for a post clean-up celebration featuring food, live music, raffle prizes, and a showcase of local businesses and organizations who support a sustainable Bozeman.
Summit of Sustainability and the Environment for High School Students, 1:00pm - 4:00pm
Gateway Youth Group (GYG), a Turner Youth Initiative, invites all high school students to participate in the 2011 Summit on Sustainability and the Environment. Bringing together area high school students, the Summit is intended to inform, inspire, and empower young people by creating a dialogue between youth,educators, businesses, political leaders, and community organizations.
Sunday, April 17th
Run for the Earth, 9:30am
Come run locally and think globally at the 3rd Annual Run for the Earth on Sunday, April 17th. The run is focused around people, healthy lifestyles, community, and of course, making sustainable living choices and features a 1 mile fun-run/walk, a 5k, and a 10k (the 1 mile and 5k are both dog and stroller friendly). The event kicks off at 9:30am with all courses beginning and ending at the Bozeman Public Library and will utilize the Linear Trail system. T-shirts and refreshments will be provided for participants. All runners and walkers can pick up their race number and t-shirts the day of the race or to speed up the check-in process, on Saturday, April 16th at Bogert Park during the Clean-Up day events from 8:30am-1:30pm.
The advance registration fee is $15.00 or $20.00 after 4/16/11. Interested participants can register online here or by calling 406-994-6653.
Tuesday-Thursday, April 17th-22nd
Activities on the Mall at Montana State University, 10am-3pm
Students with the Network of Environmentally Conscious Organizations (NECO), will host activities outside on the mall at Montana State University. All events take place between 10am -3pm and are FREE and open to the public. Events include: A Visual Renegade Art Day, as well days dedicated to sustainable farming, biking, and environmental lobbying, finishing out the week with a NECO hike on Earth Day.
Wednesday, April 20th
The Story of Stuff and the Impact of Overconsumption: A Multimedia Presentation, 7:30pm
Launching one of the most successful environmental viral media campaigns known, the 2007 animated short film The Story of Stuff revealed a system in crisis and challenged citizens to reconsider our consumer culture. Now a series of six films, The Story of Stuff Project aims to build a more just and sustainable world through public discourse on environmental, social, and economic concerns. Allison Cook, Special Project Coordinator and longest serving staff member with The Story of Stuff Project will give a presentation about our addiction to “stuff” and how we can change that dependence.
This event is hosted by the ASMSU Sustainability Center as part of the 2011 Gallatin Earth Celebration. Free and open to the public. Contact 994-6873 or www.montana.edu/gec for more information.
