McNair Scholars Information
What is the McNair Scholars Program?
Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, is designed to provide effective preparation for doctoral study for low-income, first generation, and underrepresented undergraduate students. Selection as a McNair Scholar is the result of a competitive process to participate in a program that prepares them for success in graduate school.

If you would like to receive a MSU McNair Graduate School application fee waiver, you need to provide the following:
- Email (with electronic signature) or mail an original signed letter from the student's McNair Scholars Program Director verifying that the student has participated and is/was in good standing in their McNair Scholars Program.
- The letter should explain the dates that the student was in the McNair Scholars Program, along with information about the student's activities during their scholastic career including research, seminars, or symposiums attended, as well as educational standing.
- Once we receive the letter, the Graduate School will review and verify the scholars information. If verification is secured, a fee waiver will be issued to applicants prior to application submission.
If you have any questions about the process, please do not hesitate to contact the Graduate School.
