Who can make an appointment?
Any graduate student at MSU can schedule an appointment with the graduate writing tutor, Lauren Cerretti, to discuss any writing assignment, from term papers to theses and dissertations.
How do I make an appointment?
Email Lauren Cerretti at msu.grad.tutor@gmail.com. Each appointment is usually an hour long. Please try to email at least a few days in advance for an office appointment and understand that availability fluctuates as the semester goes by.
The document I want to go over with the tutor is 100 pages. Can I still make an appointment?
Yes, you can! It will just take a few appointments to get through it. Always email the tutor early and remember to leave time for the tutor to review your document, anywhere from two days to a week for really long documents.
What should I bring with me to an appointment?
If you have an outline for your project, you should bring that to your appointment, along with any other documents pertaining to your project that are relevant to how it is organized. If you are bringing in just a chapter of your thesis or dissertation, you should also bring a copy of your actual thesis statement for reference. For a term paper or shorter-term assignment, bring the sheet that lists the details of the assignment.
What document formats can I e-mail to the tutor?
You should only email the tutor your document if you have discussed it with the tutor beforehand. You may e-mail all files to the tutor as .doc or .docx (MS Word). Attach them to the e-mail. Don’t try to paste them into the body of the e-mail message. Please make sure your document is double-spaced so there is room for commenting.
