Frequently Asked Questions
|
Q. I've been waiting for 30 minutes. The nurse has already called people who have come in after me. Why haven't they called me?
A: Each day individual nurses are assigned to provide certain services. For example one gives immunization, another may be treating warts in the wart clinic and one or two others may be helping patients who are ill. Therefore someone who comes in to get a shot may be seen before someone who is waiting to be seen for a cold. We try to staff our walk-in clinic according to need, however staff reduction due to illness, or more than normal numbers of patients may result in students having to wait longer than usual. In general, if you have not been seen within 30 minutes please check with the receptionist.
Q. You let me register last semester. Why all of a sudden do you have a hold on my registration?
A: You were probably granted temporary compliance. Some of the reasons students will be given temporary compliance follow. There may be other reasons not listed.
- MSU immunization requirements have not been fulfilled.
- Students are attending MSU on a distance learning program
- Students have not returned for follow-up for a positive tuberculosis test
- Medical or religious exemption
- Former student status
Q. How can I get a copy of my medical records?
A: You must give us a signed authorization to release your medical information even if we are given it directly to you. You may either send us a written note signed by you or you may sign one of our preprinted forms for this purpose. There is a minimal charge for this service if your records are in excess of twenty pages.
If you need only your immunization records i.e. to attend another school, you do not need to give us signed authorization. We will need to know your name, social security number, telephone number and address. We will also need an address or FAX number where you want the records sent. There is no charge for this service.
Q. I need my immunization records sent to another school.
A: We will be happy to send your immunization records to another school for you. We will need to know your name, social security number, telephone number and address. We will also need an address or FAX number where you want the records sent. There is no charge for this service.
Q. I don't know where to look for my immunization records.
A: Please check these sources for your immunization records:
- Previous high school or former university.
- Family physician when you were a child.
- Emergency room or hospital (if you were injured or had a surgery, you were probably given a tetanus shot)
- Military records
Q. I know I've had all my immunizations but I can't find my records. What are my options?
A: If you absolutely cannot find all the necessary immunization records you may 1) have the immunizations done again 2) have a titer which will indicate if your body has immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella. There is no titer available for tetanus. You must also comply with MSU requirements for tents immunization and tuberculosis skin testing.
Q. Will Student Health Service locate my records for me?
A: No. It is your responsibility to locate your own records. We cannot do this for you.
