Thank you for your interest in our program. The MSU Hellcats are a Division II hockey club that plays other ACHA teams from Utah, Colorado, North Dakota, Idaho, and Washington. We are a registered club of the University, but receive no funding from them. Current player fees are estimated to be $700 this season. That covers everything except food on road trips. Players must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and be taking at least 9 credits to be eligible. Tryouts are held the first week of October, and flyers will be posted around campus regarding an informational meeting prior to tryouts, or you may call me for the time and location of the first meeting. Please have your gear in town by that first week of school if you wish to participate. We play NCAA hockey, so cages are required. The level of hockey is similar to Junior B with larger, more physical players. Our current players come from all over the US and Canada and from many levels of hockey. Anyone who has played organized hockey before is welcome to tryout. Practices will be held at 11:00pm Wednesday evenings at the Haynes Pavilion.
Most of our road trips require us to leave Friday morning around 10:00am. I realize that freshman have little choice as to when they schedule their classes, but be prepared to miss any classes on the Friday afternoons we have games. Our season runs from September to March with approximately 25 games and 7 road trips. The absences are school sponsored and most professors will work with you if you give them adequate notice. I will not ask any of my players to miss tests they can not reschedule, I believe school should be their first priority.
