The Child Development Center (CDC) offers a year-round early education program for young children, ages 3 through 5 years. It is also a university laboratory site for research and learning used by MSU students, faculty, and community members.  The preschool is licensed by the State of Montana and was recently accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Based on ten standards, the NAEYC accreditation examines such areas as teaching, curriculum, physical environment, and relationships.  The preschool was commended for its efforts and received 100% proficiency in the areas of relationships, assessment, teachers, families, leadership and management.  In all other areas, the preschool exceeded the minimum criteria requirements.  The Child Development Center is one of two early education programs in Bozeman to earn accreditation from NAEYC and is one of only 20 accredited sites in the state.

Learning at the CDC occurs through active investigations, discovery, and interactions with materials, peers, and adults. The following statements reflect our philosophy:

  • playful learning takes place in a community and includes the child, parent, and teacher who together share in the process of constructing knowledge;

  • the physical, cognitive, social, emotional and creative development of each individual is essential to the well-being of our community of learners

  • careful preparation of the environment enables children to follow their own interests with support from a knowledgeable team of teachers

To learn more about our preschool program please call Christine Lux, Child Development Center Director, at 994-5005.
