The Montana Dietetic Internship (MDI) is a 41 week supervised practice experience for interns pursuing dietetic registration. MDI is headquartered at Montana State University (MSU) in Bozeman where intern orientation and professional development weeks are completed along with selected supervised practice experiences. Additional supervised practice sites and rotations are located in five geographic areas including Billings, Great Falls, Helena, Kalispell, and Missoula. After three weeks of orientation/professional development, each intern will be assigned to a geographic region based on preference and preceptor availability. Supervised practice rotations will provide interns with experience in clinical dietetics, community nutrition, and foodservice management to meet ACEND supervised practice competencies. The concentration for this dietetic internship is Sustainable Food Systems. The Sustainable Food Systems rotation will occur following the internship orientation at MSU-Bozeman at the Towne’s Harvest Garden, in collaboration with the Sustainable Food and Bioenergy Systems degree program. During the internship, interns will participate in on-line instruction supervised by the MDI program director. The on-line instruction consists of intern led webinars, and interns will prepare weekly for pre-determined webinar topics by completing assigned readings and activities. Each intern will be responsible for delivering two webinars during the course; the first webinar topic is assigned by the director and is supportive of supervised learning and enhances RD exam readiness. The second topic is intern selected and meets learning criteria provided by the director with the continued aim of supporting supervised learning and exam preparedness.
