There are many ways to obtain a teaching certificate in Family and Consumer Sciences in Montana if you already have a bachelor's degree.

Please read through "the basics" first.  Then select the option that best fits your current situation to see how to proceed towards becoming a certified FCS teacher in MT.

The Basics

bullet

The basic law in Montana is that all applicants for a teaching certificate (in any content area) MUST have completed an "approved teacher's education program".

bullet

A teaching "certificate" is awarded in a MAJOR content area of study.

bullet

A teaching "endorsement" is awarded in a MINOR content area of study.

bullet

You may teach content in any area that you have a certificate or endorsement in.  Some school districts prefer to hire candidates with certificates in an area over a candidate with an endorsement.

bullet

There is an enormous demand for FCS teachers state-wide and nationally, so most school districts are anxious to hire any qualified candidate.

Look below to see which of these three options is most like you and then click on that option for more information.

  1. You already have a teaching certificate/endorsement in FCS in another state.

  2. You already have a teaching certificate from an approved teacher education program but not in FCS.

  3. You have a bachelor's degree (in any content area) but not a teaching certificate.

  4. You are interested in pursuing a Masters degree and teaching certificate on-line.
