Update on Herrick Hall Renaissance Campaign

As many of you are aware, Montana State University has begun a campaign to renovate Herrick Hall, home to many of you when you were attending college. Built in 1926 to house the Home Economics Department, it continues to offer those same programs, as well as research nutrition, child and family science, consumer sciences, counseling, and social norms. The renovation campaign is well underway with the planning stage nearing completion. A & E Architects of Billings has been working with faculty, students, and staff in the design phase of the building. Valuable input was also received from many Family and Consumer Science Educators at a meeting held in Bozeman in January. From that meeting, the architects were able to incorporate ideas into planning space for the Clothing Construction room, which will be housed on the fourth floor where there is much available natural lighting.
The three main goals for the project are: 1) to preserve the historical integrity of the building; 2) to provide for more efficient use of the existing space; and 3) to expand the amount of usable space within the building and modernize labs and classrooms.
An Alumnae Committee has been established to advise the architects and to help with the major role of fundraising. MSU intends to use a combination of corporate and private donations, federal funds, and grants to complete this project. Anyone interested in participating on the committee is more than welcome to contact Debbie Redburn at Montana State University, College of Education, Health, and Human Development dredburn@montana.edu Phone: 406-994-7906.
