  • Classified Fixed Term Employee

    Description
    A Classified Fixed Term appointment is intended to accommodate temporary needs of no more than twelve (12) months where the appointment is not intended to be permanent, and with no expectation of employment beyond the period specified. In no event shall the appointment exceed a period of twelve (12) months. No Fixed Term position may be changed to a permanent position.
    Process
    1. Determine if new hire has worked for Montana State University previously, if not the following will need to be completed:
    2. Complete (prior to submitting an EPAF) a Fixed Term Request word
    3. Submit EPAF (for assistance with EPAFs click here)

  • Short Term Employee

    Description
    Classified Short-term appointments should be used to fill short-term needs that do not exceed 90 days in a 12-month period. The 90 days may be worked consecutively, or may be an infrequent minimal number of days per month. The 12-month period begins the first day of the first appointment. A Classified Short-term worker may be appointed to a concurrent short-term position as long as the total number of days worked in all appointments do not exceed 90 days in a 12-month period.

  • Professional Hourly Employee

    Description
    Professional Hourly appointments are used to hire individuals to fill short term needs in which the hours needed are unpredictable, varied, or infrequent and no expectation of continuing assignment.
    Process
    1. Determine if new hire has worked for Montana State University previously, if not the following will need to be completed:
    2. Complete (prior to submitting an EPAF) a Professional Hourly Request

  • Student Worker

    Description
    Students taking 1 or more credits are eligible to be appointed as a student worker. Students taking 6 credits or more are eligible for exemption from FICA taxes. (FICA taxes: Medicare and Social Security)

  • Work Study

    Description
    Work Study is a federal or state-funded program offered to eligible students who demonstrate financial need.
    Process
    1. Determine if new hire has worked for Montana State University previously, if not the following will need to be completed:
    2. Each Work Study eligible student receives a blue Certificate of Eligibility from Financial Aid Services. After you have determined that a student is suitable for employment, is enrolled for at least 6 credits, and still has a valid Work Study award, you and the student must complete the Certificate and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

  • Graduate Assistant

    Description
    Student enrolled as a degree seeking graduate student. Must be registered for 6 or more credits to be appointed as a GTA or GRA, and from 3 to 5 credits as a GSA.
    Process
    1. Determine if new hire has worked for Montana State University previously, if not the following will need to be completed:
    2. Complete (prior to submitting an EPAF) a Graduate Assistantship Agreement Form pdf

  • Courtesy/Affiliate Appointment

    Description
    The purpose of this appointment is to facilitate GID creation and provide network and campus facility access to individuals who do not currently have it.
