Curriculum  

The A.C.E Language Institute at Montana State University has been providing quality intensive English instruction since 1994. It is the only language institute currently accredited in the state of Montana.

English Language Program 

Students will attend English classes each day, Monday through Thursday, including coursework in academic reading and writing, speaking and listening, US culture and TOEFL preparation classes.

College Preparation 

Academy students will attend weekly workshops focused specifically on the American higher education system.

Workshop 1: Introduction to higher education in the United States (includes an overview of types of institutions, majors, minors, certificates, core curriculum, and college credits)

Workshop 2: Application process (standardized tests, application and essay, interviews)

Workshop 3: Expectations in an American classroom (participation, collaboration, critical thinking, faculty expectations)

Workshop 4: Academic integrity and avoiding plagiarism

Workshop 5: Support networks (academic, health-related, relationships, campus resources)

Workshop 6: College student skills (study, self-monitoring, test-taking, goal-setting)

Workshop 7: Managing college life (scheduling, stress management, relationships with advisors and faculty)

Integrated Cultural Programming Students will benefit from culturally focused learning activities both inside and outside of the classroom. The course schedule incorporates a class, US Culture, which includes topics such as American cultural characteristics, the history and growth of multiculturalism in the US and intercultural competence. 

Activities & Excursions 

Students will get to participate in a variety of activities. These activities are designed to familiarize students with the cultures, people and lifestyles that can be found in Bozeman. Activities will include: 

  • Service learning projects
  • Conversation circles with local high school students
  • Visits to local Farmer’s Market
  • Friendship Family Day

Students will also be taken on multiple excursions to local attractions as well as places of interest in the greater Montana area. These will include: 

  • Yellowstone National Park
    • As the world's first National Park, Yellowstone offers landscape and wildlife that can be found no where else. Featuring canyons, rivers, forest, hot springs, and geysers like the world famous Old Faithful, this prolific attraction is one of the most popular destinations in the U.S. 
  • Crow Indian Reservation
    • As the homeland of the Crow Nation, students will get to learn from and interact with members of one of Montana's largest American Indian Nations. This is the largest reservation in Montana and encompasses 2.2 million acres of land. 
  • Visits to surrounding college and university like:
    • Carol College
    • Gallatin College              
    • MSU Billings
    • Montana Tech
