Housing: Students stay in double rooms in a Stellenbosch University residence hall.

Academic Program

Learn about South African History and Politics through a series of lectures and field excursions.

Courses offered include:

  • South African Politics and Economics
  • South African History
  • Apartheid and After: Representations of South African Art and Literature
  • Bio and Geo Diversity in the Western Cape
  • Social, Cultural and Legal Landscapes
  • Service Learning in Community Development

Field excursions to a variety of historic, cultural, and natural sites.

  • Visit historic sites such as Parliament, Robben Island and District 6.
  • Explore cultural sites such as Kayamandi and Gugulethu Townships, the Cape Muslim Community
  • Experience places of natural beauty, such as Cape Point, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Simon’s Town (Penguins!!)

Program also includes:

  • Volunteer opportunities in the Stellenbosch area.
  • Weekend visit to a luxurious Guesthouse on a working African Karoo Farm.

The university has a student population of about 22,000 students and offers a wide variety of courses.

Location

The charming university of Stellenbosch is ideally situated in the heart of the Cape Winelands, surrounded by magnificent mountains, 20 minutes from the nearest beaches and 30 minutes from Cape Town. Stellenbosch and its surroundings offer plenty of outdoor activities to be enjoyed, as well as a rich variety of theatre, arts and entertainment all year round. Take note of our winter weather and come prepared: Stellenbosch (Western Cape) has a Mediterranean climate and the winter (June to August) is cool to cold and rainy.
