The MSU Office of International Programs hopes your time abroad was challenging, interesting, educational, and fun. Your international experience doesn't have to end now that you've returned to the U.S. Sharing your experiences and getting involved in local and international activities can help you adjust to being back as well as help you integrate your time abroad into your academic life and long-term goals.

OIP offers several ways to do this:

Study Abroad Alumni Directory

Join the Study Abroad Alumni Directory

Other students who may be considering a study abroad experience use the directory as a source of firsthand information to help with their decision. If you would like to be listed in the directory, please email the following information to Hilary Papendick (hilaryp@montana.edu):

  • Name and email address (tell us if it's ok to give out your email address)
  • Years you studied abroad
  • Type of program (summer program, semester/year program, work/internship/volunteer program)
  • Your major (if you were a student)
  • Country where you studied
  • Name of Program and University attended
  • Favorite memory of your experience?
  • Comments for other students thinking about studying abroad?

Join the Friends Beyond Borders Program

See the world without leaving Bozeman!  This program will match you up with an incoming international student gives you the opportunity to meet students from around the world, practice language skills, and help make an international student feel at home in Bozeman.

After the initial orientation, where you will meet your student, you will arrange times to hang out with your international student on your own.  Plan to meet two or three times a month for one semester.

You may download an application here.

Please return applications to Office of International Programs, attention Hilary Papendick.

Aspiring Photographers / Writers

If you have any writing pertaining to your study abroad experiences, we are always looking for articles, poems, and quotes. Also, we love pictures! We will credit your photograph appropriately if we publish it on the web site or use it for other promotional purposes. Please send either writing or photographs by email as an attached document to Hilary Papendick at hilaryp@montana.edu.

We also encourage you to submit your story for publication in one of several national periodicals:

  • Transitions Abroad is published six times a year, and includes articles about travel and work abroad.
  • Abroad View is affiliated with Transitions Abroad but focuses on study abroad. For submissions guidelines, visit their web site and/or e-mail articles and ideas directly to editors@abroadviewmagazine.com.
  • Glimpse strives to foster progressive and intimate global understanding. Published in print and online, it features first-person articles written primarily by and for study abroad students.

  • Participating in the Study Abroad Fair

  • Making classroom presentations

  • Helping with Pre-departure Orientations
