Academic Program
Dr. David McWethy from Earth Sciences at MSU leads this program to Antarctica. Visit penguin, seal and seabird colonies, camp overnight on the Antarctic Peninsula. Learn first-hand how scientists are studying the impacts of climate change and ecotourism on the incredible diversity of life in Antarctica. Hear from experts about the rich history of international activity on the Peninsula and evolution of the Antarctic Treaty (no country owns Antarctica). This program to Antarctica will take place during the Antarctic summer when temperatures are not as cold as you would think (avg. temp. above 32 F).
