Program Overview
As a center for research, Lancaster is ranked as one of the top universities in the United Kingdom. With students from over 100 countries, Lancaster's program is well established for study abroad and offers considerable flexibility in program length and course choices. The University has a population of over 10,000 students, including 3,000 graduate students. The University campus is located in the countryside just three miles south of the city center, with a view extending to the sea. Lancaster is located in one of the most beautiful parts of England. To the north, and less than an hour away, lies the famous lake district, probably the best loved of the English national parks. A highlight of Lancaster's cultural life is the Duke's, a leading repertory theater, which also offers an extensive program of films and hosts the Lancaster Literature Festival.
Academic Program
A wide range of majors is offered in humanities, pure and applied sciences, social sciences and business studies. The academic program at Lancaster is extensive, and students should refer to Lancaster's catalog located in the Resource Center of the Office of International Programs for specific courses. Some special features include the Pre-medical and science programs, Engineering, Business studies, independent studies. The university also offers unique yet excellent courses in creative writing and women's studies. Once at Lancaster students will be involved in a comprehensive orientation program introducing new students to the various aspects of social and academic life. Eligibility
Students who have completed a full academic year of university level work with a 3.0 GPA by the time they begin studies in Lancaster are eligible.
Academic Credit
Credit will be awarded at MSU for all courses taken and passed at Lancaster. The student's academic advisor at MSU and the MSU Registrar, in consultation with the Office of International Programs, will determine how these credits will apply to degree course requirements. Students are urged to work closely with these offices prior to departure to plan a course of studies that will maintain steady progress toward their degree.
Location
Lancaster, a market town with a population of 50,000, has roots that go back as far as the Roman occupation of Britain. The city skyline is dominated by John of Gaunt's castle standing high above the river Lune, within sight of the sea and with a magnificent view of the nearby English Lake District, one of England's most beloved nature parks. The city lies on Britain's west coast, roughly equidistant between London and Edinburgh and only 80 miles south of Hadrians's Wall and the Scottish border. The seaside resorts of Blackpool and Morecambe are nearby. Also close at hand are the great urban centers of Liverpool and Manchester and the medieval city of York. London is only 3 hours away by train and travel to the European mainland and Ireland is also very convenient. Lancaster's picturesque narrow streets free from traffic, its canal and riverside, its parks, its great nightlife, manageable size and friendly atmosphere all make the city popular with students.
Cost and Included Benefits
Students who receive an exchange placement at Lancaster will pay tuition at MSU in the same amount as if studying in Bozeman. Each student will be responsible for his/her own room and board in the UK as well as transatlantic travel expenses. Remember to plan for extra expenses such as internal travel and personal spending money as well as for unexpected changes in the exchange rate. Financial Aid
Financial Aid may be used for study abroad at Lancaster. Additional costs for study at Lancaster (e.g. travel to and from the study site) may be used in calculating student's financial aid package. Students are responsible to apply to the Office of Financial Aid.

Applications are available in the Office of International Programs at 400 Culbertson Hall.
Deadline
Applications are due in the Office of International Programs on October 1 to study at Lancaster the following spring semester, and March 1 to study in Lancaster the following fall semester or academic year.
