Current enrollment includes over 23,000 students, with over 3000 international students from 120 countries.
Sheffield is England's fourth-largest city, with many major city conveniences- yet it's compact, friendly and accessible. Because Sheffield has a big student population, there are plenty of special deals from local shops, eating places and entertainment venues. Sheffield is England's greenest city, with 150 woodland and 50 public parks, and from the main campus students are only minutes away from open countryside. Sheffield's centralized location also allows students to comfortably travel to all of England's major cities and attractions.
Academic Program
Students are able to select from a wide range of courses from all departments including Architectural Studies, Arts, Economics, Engineering, Humanities, Languages, Sciences, Social Sciences, and Women's Studies. Twenty-two academic departments are rated in the national top ten with sixteen of these departments ranking in the top five nationally. Three of the academic departments at Sheffield are rated the best in the country—Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Politics, and Russian and Slavonic Studies. MSU engineering majors should note that Sheffield has had a long-standing reputation for excellence in engineering. The university's research partners include international companies such as Rolls-Royce, Boeing, and British Aerospace Systems. Location
Recently named the UK's safest city, Sheffield is the fourth largest city in England. Conveniently located in the center of England, the city of Sheffield is about an hour's travel by road or rail from Manchester, Nottingham and Leeds. London is about two and a half hours away by train. Directly to the west is the Peak District National Park, which houses excellent opportunities for hiking and climbing.

At the center of the city is the Cathedral of St. Peter, which contains architecture from the 15th to the 20th century. Sheffield also boasts award winning art galleries and museums, including the spectacular new city center Millennium Galleries. Sheffield has an incredible music scene with live music to suit all tastes. Orchestral, jazz, and rock concerts are held in the city's venues, and well-known international bands and artists regularly appear at the famous Sheffield Arena and at the University itself. Sheffield's Crucible and Lyceum theaters present some of the best theater in the country outside of London. Sheffield is also the home of Sheffield United, a soccer team that competes against some of the top teams in the world.
