Program Overview
Weingarten is situated in Upper Swabia, one of the most attractive holiday regions of Germany, bordered by the Alps, Lake Constance and the Swabian Jura. The neighboring town to the south is Ravensburg, a medieval gem close to Austria and Switzerland, which in the 20th century became internationally famous for its board-games, the Ravensburger Spiele. A total of 70,000 people live in the two towns. A very attractive feature of the Fachhochschule – University of Applied Sciences – is its location on an extensive campus on the town's outskirts. The university was established in Ravensburg in 1964, when the State School of Engineering began instruction in the fields of mechanical engineering. In 1982, the University moved to a town not far away called Weingarten, famous for its world renowned Coo Coo Clocks. Currently, there are approximately 1,400 students attending the University, and 120 of these students are international students.
Academic Program
The University of Applied Sciences FH Ravensburg-Weingarten places specific emphasis on international education and applied research. There is a wide variety of courses offered in the fields of engineering science, computer science, social science, educational science, and journalism. The University also offers language courses for students taking German as a second language.
Language of Instruction

Eligibility
Engineering students who have completed one full academic year of university level work at MSU with a 3.0 GPA by the time they begin studies at the University of Applied Sciences Fachhochschule Ravensburg-Weingarten are eligible.
Academic Credit
Credit will be awarded at MSU for all courses taken and passed at the University of Applied Sciences Fachhochschule Ravensburg-Weingarten. The student's academic advisor at MSU and the MSU Registrar, in consultation with the Office of International Programs will determine how these credits will apply to degree course requirements. Students are urged to work closely with these offices prior to departure to plan a course of studies which will maintain steady progress toward their degree.
Location
Weingarten is located in the enchanting southern part of Germany in the heart of the Black Forest, and like most small towns in the Black Forest, the Church Steeple is the highest point. This quaint and beautiful part of Germany houses a wide variety of clubs for cultural, political and sporting activities. The University lies on the Schussen, a river that connects many of the smaller communities. Weingarten is located about a half an hour north of Switzerland. Lake Constance is only 25 kilometers away, providing ideal conditions for water sports, while the nearly Alps offer mountain climbing and hiking adventures in the summer and skiing in the winter. The Allgau and the Swabian Hills provide wonderful hiking opportunities as well.
Cost and Included Benefits
Students receiving exchange placements at the University of Applied Sciences Fachhochschule Ravensburg-Weingarten will pay tuition at MSU in the same amount as if studying in Bozeman. Each student is responsible for his/her room and board at the University of Applied Sciences FH Ravensburg-Weingarten, as well as trans-Atlantic travel expenses. Several scholarships are available for students planning to study abroad. Remember to plan for extra expenses such as internal travel and personal spending money as well as for unexpected changes in the exchange rate.
Financial Aid
Financial aid may be available for study abroad at the University of Applied Sciences FH Ravensburg-Weingarten. Additional costs for study at the University of Applied Sciences FH Ravensburg-Weingarten (e.g. travel to and from the study site) may be used in calculating student's financial aid package. Students are responsible to apply to the Office of Financial Aid and can download the necessary forms from their website at: www.montana.edu/wwwfa/forms.html.
Application/Deadlines:
Applications are available in the Office of International Programs at 400 Culbertson Hall. Applications are due in the Office of International Programs on October 1 for the following spring semester and March 1 for the following fall semester to study at the University of Applied Sciences FH Ravensburg-Weingarten the following fall.
