Last weekend a bunch of friends and I went to a smaller town outside of Kumamoto to watch a fireworks festival. It was in the town of Yatsushiro. It was really amazing. There were so many people! There tons of booths set up selling all kinds of really good food. I got to try a few new foods that I had never seen before. Here is a picture of the area where we were sitting.

The fireworks were the best I have ever seen in my life, much better than any fourth of July celebration I have attended. From what I heard it was like a competition between the different prefectures in the area. The fireworks were massive take a look at the next picture and you can see the shadows of the trees against this massive firework that is held up by 3 cranes.

This was supposed to imitate Niagara falls, it was amazing.

On sunday We had the opportunity to wear traditional Japanese clothes, Kimonos. Supposedly if you want to buy onethey are more than an thousand dollars. Everything is handmade silk. They had an event at the Kumamoto Castle were all foreigners were able to were to get fitted with a Kimono and walk around the temple grounds for a couple hours. It was a fun time. Every one was starring at me more than usual, not only was I a super tall white guy but I had on a nice Kimono.

All of the international students were able to do this here is a picture of all of us together.

It is a really fun time here in Kumamoto. My Japanese is getting better all the time, I can communicate with people better and better. My Japanese classes are getting manageable, it is amazing how much better I am getting.

Recently one of the professors here at the university has started teaching me Iaido, which is the Japanese sword martial art. It teaches how to use a sword like a Samurai did. It is really interesting and exciting. Later this year we are going to take a trip to a famous sword maker’s shop here in Kyushu, I am really looking forward to it.

I am doing a lot of martial arts, Taekwondo, Aikido, and Iaido. I am very busy! Life is a blast right now!

Wow I sure hope to visit Japan someday. I am fascinated with their martial arts especially interested in aikido. I also collect Japanese swords. Those things are so cool.
