Program OverviewKadir Has University, founded in 1997, offers seven degree programs on three campuses. The main campus is located in a renovated tobacco warehouse in Cibali, one of the oldest and districts in Istabul. In 1997, Kadir Has University took over the building and worked with architects to create an beautiful, innovative university space that preserves the character and history of the factory. The Texel Cibali Tabacco Factory, which opened in 1884 and was in operation until 1995, is one of many warehouses that used to line the harbor when the area was full of goods coming in and out of the busy port during the Ottoman Empire. The progessive new university blends the rich history of its building and surroundings with the future through education, culture, and research.
Academic ProgramKadir Has University offers academic programs in Arts and Sciences, Communications, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Engineering, Fine Arts, and Law. Computer science and Design courses are offered.
Language of InstructionCourses are primarily taught in English.
EligibilityStudents who have completed one full academic year of university level work at MSU with at least a 3.0 GPA are eligible.
Academic CreditCredit will be awarded at MSU for all courses taken and passed at Kadir has University. The student's academic adviser at MSU, in consultation with the Office of International Programs will determine how these credits will apply to degree course requirements. However, successful study at Kadir Has satisfies MSU's Multicultural/Global core curriculum requirement. Students are urged to work closely with their adviser and the Office of International Programs prior to departure to plan a course of studies which will maintain steady progress toward their degree.
LocationKadir Has University is located in Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey and the former captial of three empires (Eastern Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman). Located in the Cibali, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Istanbul, the university is a few yards from the harbor known as the Golden Horn and the famous Balat district. With over 10 million people, Istanbul extends over the European and Asian side of the Bosphorous strait and is the financial, cultural and economic center of modern Turkey. Istanbul is known for its impressive architecture, which is a result of the city's role as a cultural center througout Turkey's long history. The city offers many historical mosques, synagogues, churches, palaces, castles and towers to visit. Istanbul is also well situated for exploring nearby countries, including Greece and Eastern Europe.
Student LifeKadir Has University offers on campus accommodation to all international students. A variety of clubs and sports activities are available including Law Society, Culture and Thought, Rock Music, Dancing, Photography, Entrepreneurship, Fine Arts, and the Environment, among others.
Cost and Included BenefitsStudents who receive exchange placements at Kadir Has University will pay tuition at MSU in the same amount as if studying in Bozeman. Business students who are not awarded exchange placements and students with other majors. Each student is responsible for his/her room and board in Turkey as well as trans-Atlantic travel expenses. Remember to plan for extra expenses such as internal travel and personal spending money as well as for unexpected changes in the exchange rate.
Financial AidFinancial aid may be available for study abroad at Kadir Has University. Additional costs for study at Kadir Has University (e.g. travel to and from the study site) may be used in calculating students' financial aid packages. Students are responsible to apply to the Office of Financial Aid.
