Sydney is Australia's largest city with a population of 3.7 million. The city offers a large number of attractions including Sydney Harbor, Sydney Opera House, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Royal Botanic Gardens, the Sydney Aquarium, the Australian National Maritime Museum, the Chinese Garden, and many others. Sydney also offers many beaches, parks, and other recreational areas. Due to the city's extensive ethnic diversity, there is a large variety of ethnic restaurants and neighborhoods. The Sydney region enjoys a mild climate with warm summers and sunny winters. It has a mainly dry climate with an average temperature of 85 degrees Fahrenheit in summer and 60 degrees Fahrenheit in winter.
Sydney has a good bus and train network, including an underground city center loop. The most pleasant way to get around is by ferry, especially to see Sydney Harbor. The area surrounding Sydney offers easy access to warm sunny beaches and a host of water sports in which to try your skills. The spectacular Blue Mountains lie 40 miles to the west of Sydney, which offer the rugged beauty of a mountainous environment with a broad variety of bird, animal and wildflower species.
