Program Overview

University guides confirm The University of Sheffield’s position as one of the UK's leading universities. The Virgin 2008 Alternative Guide to British Universities, for instance, says that "Sheffield is a top university across the board".

Teaching quality assessments rate their teaching very highly across a wide range of subjects, and official research assessments confirm their reputation as a center for world-class research in many disciplines.

The University has nearly 24,000 students from 124 countries, and almost 6000 staff. The University of Sheffield is a popular choice with applicants for university places, and once they arrive, students enjoy the experience so much that many settle in Sheffield after they graduate.

Research partners and clients include Boeing, Rolls Royce, Unilever, Boots, AstraZeneca, GSK, ICI, Slazenger, and many more household names, as well as UK and overseas government agencies and charitable foundations.

Sheffield is England's fourth-largest city, with many major city conveniences- yet it's compact, friendly and accessible. Because Sheffield has a big student population, there are plenty of special deals from local shops, eating places and entertainment venues. Sheffield is England's greenest city, with 150 woodland and 50 public parks, and from the main campus students are only minutes away from open countryside. Sheffield's centralized location also allows students to comfortably travel to all of England's major cities and attractions.

Sheffield's Crucible and Lyceum theaters present some of the best theater in the country outside of London. Sheffield is also the home of Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday, two soccer teams that competes against some of the top teams in the world.

As the National City of Sport, Sheffield has an enviable choice of world-class facilities including the prestigious English Institute of Sport, Europe´s largest ice complex and all season ski resort, Olympic swimming pool, athletics stadium, golf courses, and more besides.
